Chestnut Mushrooms

grow bag instructions

Description

Chestnut (Pholiota adiposa) mushrooms are also known as Cinnamon Caps which have a nutty and earthy taste that is said to taste similarly to Shiitake mushrooms.

Instructions

1.) Place grow bag on a table or shelf inside at room temperature (60oF – 70oF) with medium, indirect sunlight.

2.) Watch the white mycelium colonize throughout the bag.

3.) Once fully colonized, wait 2-3 weeks for metabolites to form and for the block to begin to orange/brown

4.) Either wait for pins to form and top fruit, or cut a horizontal “X” into the bags side and cut about 2-3cm deep into the substrate to promote pin formation there

5.) Mist the bag 1-2 times per day and keep in a ventilated area

6.) Harvest your mushrooms and soak the block for 4-6 hours in cold water, before taking it out, to promote a new cycle of growth

You can attempt a second fruiting by withholding water mist for 7 days. Soak the block in cold water for 20 minutes and then pour out excess water from the bag, then start misting 2-3 times a day.
