Shiitake

Shiitake Mushrooms

Grow Bag Instructions

Description

Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) mushrooms are nutritious and look like what we think when we picture mushrooms with medium to large brown umbrella-shaped caps. This mushroom has a rich, savory, buttery, full, umami flavor.

Instructions

1.) Wait for full white colonization to occur

2.) Watch for small white nodes to begin forming, this is known as “popcorning”

3.) Once the block is covered in popcorn, cut a slit alongside the area where the block meets the bag, at the surface.

4.) Wait for block to turn about 50-75% brown, then either cold shock, soak the block in water, or physically slap it, to help induce pins

5.) Mist the block 1-2 times per day as normal, in a ventilated area, and wait for your shiitakes to grow

6.) Soak the block in water for 6 hours to promote new growth, after you harvest
